Image Attribution

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about Image attribution. Image attribution is when you search up a picture on Google and you find out if your allowed to use the picture for anything people are doing. We are doing this because if you don’t you can be sued for copyright infringement. Before we did this I knew nothing about it and If I didn’t know and kept on doing it I might be sued. I learnt how to find  creative common licenses.. I Think i have been doing well by always looking for creative common licenses on pictures.

Will this help you in the future?

The Journey To The Bird Song

Kia ora, in Te Ngahere the year Sixes on Tuesday we were going on a trip, the trip was to the Bird Song/Project Island Song. The day before the trip people from the Project Island Song came to Paihia School and told us about what they do and what they have done in the pass, in the pass when the Europeans came they would of said they couldn’t  think because of how loud it was because their was too much birds the people said. Around 2000 the noise died down so much because of pests that the Europeans brought to New Zealand. The next day I couldn’t wait to go to school because of the trip. The Project Island Song has saved 7 islands, the island that we were going to was called Urupukapuka. We were going to that island because it is bigger than the other 6 islands. When I got to school I was very very excited and as soon as the first bus got at school we waited a few minutes until it was time we leave. We were at the wharf and limited people got jobs, my job was to be the media team that I volunteered for, there was one boy me and a girl called Marley. After that we went on the boat. We were halfway and turned off the boat and went to make sure everyone was quiet. We saw some Pied Shags and birdlings in their nests. We were gliding on the water zooming past many Islands until we reached our destination. I was in Roopu rua tahi and we were making traps first. Matua Shane said to get into groups of 3 and one pair of 2. We were finishing the last screw and then we were finish, we got told to decorate it. We got felts and thought of stuff that would attract the pests. We thought of meat, cheese and peanut butter. It was finally time until we swap to go and plant. We went up hills and saw the most beautiful view that I have ever seen, we were at the biggest hill and there was an ocean but there was a MASSIVE MOUNTAIN. We were at the garden and  I looked back at the hill and saw how steep it was, I was devastated when I saw it but carried on. We got told the steps and followed. When we were finish we gave it a Karakia and hope one day it will grow up strong and big. We were back where we created the traps and left.

Have you ever gone to the Project Island Song?

Be Safe Or Else

Kia ora and in Te Ngahere we have been learning about Cyber Smart Relationships. We learnt this because we are trying to be more cautious online then in real life. Cyber Smart Relationships is when you are safe online because people can lie and bully you if you are not careful online. To stop that from happening we watch a video about a girl that shared too much personal information and there was a stranger that was lying by saying that he was 13 when he was an old man. She got a little cautious but still carried on talking to Simon telling him where she lives and where she hangs out. Eventually she found out and called the cops on Simon and he got arrested. After that we had to copy a Google slides and get into groups of three and share it to each other and answer questions on the Google slides. We were upto the last question and said what will we not do online me and my friends thought deeply and I came up for an answer, my answer was to not talk to strangers. My friend didn’t go on social media so he write down stuff when he does go on my other friend was equivalent to mine.

Would you ever share personal information online?

What It Might Be?

 What It might Be?

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to read whole texts and to use our prior knowledge to figure out what the author could be describing. We had limited text to think of what it might be. It is important to read the text because then you don’t know what you are doing.

The the first text said in the early evening I see a big _________ with its eyes shining bright yellow. At first I thought it was a tractor headlights because their big and you normally work in the afternoon and if you turn on the lights it shines yellow bright. I felt like it wasn’t that so guessed another thing. I guessed yellow glow sticks because some people use them at concerts and some concerts start in early evening. I also felt suspicious about that to so I guessed again this time I guessed a light bulb because people turn them on at early evenings and some are big and shines yellow. The next day we got one more sentence it prowls for ages along the road so I thought it would be a New Zealand possum because it has big yellow eyes and sometimes they come out on early evenings and they hunt stealthy. I felt like I was close but not there yet so next I guessed Dingoes because they chase in early evenings with yellow eyes and it stealthy goes across roads. I felt just like I should think of a panther because they normally come out in the early evening to stealthy hunt for their prey with their big yellow eyes across roads. The next day we got more information that said and only stops to drink at Caltex.I can hear it roar.

At then I knew what it was, it was a car! because! it can go early in the evening I see a big car with its headlights acting like eyes shining yellow and it stealthy goes for ages along the road and it goes to Caltex to refuel and when it is finish it roars its engine.

Do you know what it might be?

The Challenging Catapult

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the E Pro8. The E Pro8 is when there are different challenges that are fun and challenging. We had more than an hour to finish a catapult and other challenges.

In E Pro8 we had to create catapults out of Bamboo sticks, Electric tape, Scissors, string, Rubber bands, one Ping pong ball and 1x Measuring tape.  We had to get into groups of 3. My group had 1 boy and 2 girls. The teacher said it had to be a mixture of gender so at least 1 girl 2 boys or 2 girls 1 boy. We learnt about potential energy and kinetic energy. Potential energy is when something is storing energy and kinetic energy is when you use a slingshot and you fire. We thought we should build a triangular prism and we  put a bamboo stick in the middle so we can hit the bamboo stick to bring kinetic energy. The potential energy happens we are about to launch the catapult. We tied it up with rubber bands and when we were finished we had to test  it. The Success criteria said that it has to go pass 3 meters before landing. We had some bad attempts at first but then we knew that we were ready. We got the measuring tape and measured it up to 3 meters. A few seconds later I launched it and it landed pass 3 meters. We didn’t get the exact number of the measurement but we know that it went past 3 meters.

Have you done The E Pro8 Before?

The Suspicious Instructions

 The Suspicious Instructions

This week in Te Ngahere we were learning how to follow instructions properly. We did this so we can see who can read the whole question properly. There were 23 Instructions and we had 4 minutes to finish it.

We got a paper by the teacher. These instructions were confusing because one of the instructions said to write down 8950 and 9805 on the reverse side of the paper.  The 4 minutes was nearly up I felt like I didn’t realise something but I still carried on. When I got to 20th instruction the time was up. We got told to go down to the mat and she pulled up the picture of it on the screen. As soon as she pulled it up one of the people in my class realised something. She realised that there was something that we didn’t realise in the first Instruction. It said Read everything carefully before doing anything then I realised. The teacher explained why we were wrong. I thought at the end was just a big instruction but it was telling us to only do the 1st and 2nd instruction I felt dumb afterwards she explained it to us. For now on I will try to read questions properly.

Do you follow instructions Properly?

The Best School Lunch Ever

 The Best School lunch

In Te Ngahere on March the 30th 2021 we went to my friends parents restaurant because they invited us for his birthday lunch.

We had the best school lunch because of my friends birthday. My friend was called Shivam and his parents own 2 restaurants in Paihia called Greens Thai and Greens Indian. They invited us to Greens Indian. We were happy because there food at the restaurant was delicious it was an indian restaurant. We had butter chicken and the sauce was a sweet tomato sauce with rice and nut bread. it got served in a plastic looking plate. It had walls to make sure the food doesn’t mix together. The whole class got a drink, the drinks were Sprite and Coke. In the middle of our lunch 2 of our classmates got up and gave a card to Shivam full with our names to say thanks to him. When we finished lunch we got Easter eggs by the staff and we got a surprise when we saw how much Easter eggs there where. We all said thanks in politeness then went to the entrance of the restaurant and sung three waiata. We did that to say thanks and apparently they had goosebumps.

If you tried their butter chicken would you like it?

The Fantastic Facts About The Coral Reefs

The Fantastic Facts About The Coral Reefs

In Te Ngahere we learnt what happens in the Coastal Sea’s. We also watched an episode about Coastal Sea’s. It was on the TV show called Our Planet. We had to write down facts when we were watching it. We had to create Google slides and on each slide we put facts on it.

The facts were about what happens in coral reefs, sea forests and Seagrass. We watched it all and we started to write down facts about Bottle nose dolphins, sea urchins, White Tipped sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Sea Otters and Sea lions. It says what happens when coral reefs die. We put all of these facts in the presentations we made.

Do you know anything about the Coastal Sea’s?

The Amazing Life Of Food Webs

The Amazing Life Of Food Webs

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about food webs. The food webs are the ecosystem but tells what eats what and what the predator is for that animal or producer. We got animals on the google drawing, we had to copy it. There were photos of animals from New Zealand on the google drawing.

The animals we had were the kiwi, kereru, tui, possum, rats, stoats and invertebrates. We also had producers like the Kowhai tree and fruit. We had to point arrows to the animals that eats the fruit or animal. The stoat was the top of the food web because it eats the birds possums and rats. It keeps on hunting because it gets energy. The stoat gets energy by eating all of the animals and kept getting energy transferred to it. The stoat gets energy by the Kereru and possums. The possums and the Kereru eat the fruit and producers which both have energy. The Kereru and the possum gets energy transferred to them. They get energy by the plants because after they pollinate the get energy from the sun and water minerals underground. The arrows point to the animals because that’s the predator of the food. The stoat ate most things it eats the birds, rats, and possums. The arrows are different because the one down the bottom has colored lines to know what animal eats the food. My one has skinny arrows instead of thick ones. The one down the bottom is more confusing and has more lines going across.

Do you know anything about food webs?

The Tsunami Evacuation

The Tsunami Evacuation

There was a Tsunami in Paihia so we had to evacuate to the closest but highest ground. The tallest place was the mountain right next to our school. The mountain was tall but it was pretty easy to get to the top. When we got to the top we could see most of the ocean. A few moments later we started to see some lines leading into the ocean. The whole school was up at the top and some parents came to pick up their children. There were more and more lines going into the ocean. It was kind of getting scary when there were heaps I thought that it was going to be big because the lines looked like it was sucking in the water to make a big tsunami/ wave. We were waiting for our bags and then there were some people that brought some hotdogs. We were so happy that we had food. Our bags came a few minutes after we had the hotdogs then we had lunch. After lunch we got bored and then Whaea Gina found a quiz. We did 2 quizzes. The first one was about Harry Potter. In every quiz we had to make a funny sound to answer. The second theme was about Prior Knowledge. It was only our class doing it because the other classes were above us. Around the middle of the second quiz I felt like going to sleep. The tsunami reminded me of the movie kind of like Jaws. I kept on getting excited because I couldn’t hear the siren but it was just the class being noisy, or should I say the school was. A few moments later we got the okay sign by the scientists so we could go down.  There were only around 30 people left at school. We got to play outside for a little bit and as soon as I heard ice cream from my friends I ran to find my friend. My friend that I was looking for was Mikaira. My other friends were running back to class.  A few moments later I heard a shout from them saying to come back then we found my friend in the classroom. After we had our ice cream we went back home.

Have you ever been in a tsunami evacuation?

My Care For The Kawa Of Care

My Care For The Kawa Of Care

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to take care of a chromebook in class, we call it the Kawa of Care. The Kawa Of Care is the name of the rules we have to follow ,we follow these rules so we don’t break our chromebooks.

We made some animations about it. The teachers said it could be about  how you shouldn’t take care of your chromebook or how you could take care of your chromebook.

It was hard trying to think about how to make a good animation like what pictures im going

to use on the slides.

Do you use the Kawa Of Care with your devices?

Magnificent facts about Roy Litchenstein

 Magnificent facts about Roy Lichtenstein

In Te Ngahere we have been learning amazing facts about Roy Lichtenstein. We had to use a special technique called The Ben day dots when we were drawing a self portrait of ourselves. Roy Lichtenstein was a Pop art artist he was famous  for his paintings and the comic strips that actually looked like it was from a comic book. He was also famous for his bright and bold paintings in most of his paintings he used  multiple colours. The hardest thing was to try get more than 6 facts so I don’t be a low level.

The easiest thing was tracing the outside of my face using a photo of myself. I predicted that we’re going to use Ben Day Dots for our self portraits.

Do you know some facts about Roy Lichtenstein???
